The 6 Core Concepts of Workday HCM
Many times people come and ask me that they want to learn areas in Workday like Integrations, Reports, Studio, Analytics, WCP etc but don’t want to spend time on Workday Core HCM and I often wonder how is that even possible. How can you write a book in French when you don’t know the alphabets. And this is what Workday does, for any of the Workday certifications, it is a pre-requisite to know Workday Core HCM. And maybe that’s the reason why I appreciate Workday as an ERP tool more than its contemporaries.
Well, to understand Workday HCM — Foundation of Workday, it is important to know the 6 core concepts :-
1) Supervisory Organization :- Foundation of WD HCM. Groups workers into a management hierarchy
Eg :- An organization ABC Company for a group of workers that report directly to one Manager.
2) Staffing model :- How jobs and positions are created and filled in an organization
There are 2 types of staffing models — Position Management and Job Management. Both of these provides a different level of control over the staffing.
3) Business process :- Sequence of activities that fulfil a business objective. Your activities can include tasks, To Do’s, Approvals and Document upload
4) Security :- Collection of users / objects that are assigned to an user
Eg: HR Admin , Payroll Auditor, Managers etc
5) Compensation :- Umbrella term for Compensation packages ,Grades, Grade profiles and plans
Compensation package — Group of compensation plans
Eg:- All workers in ABC Company are part of Compensation package
Compensation plan — A component of pay that you use to assign monetary amount to a worker
Compensation grade /profile — It is assigned to a job profile. Pay range are defined in compensation grade profile
